“Life moves on and so should we” ― Spencer Johnson

In July 2006, Barry Blanton the President of Fleetwood Retail Corp. gave us the book Who Moved My Cheese? by Dr. Spencer Johnson. When you hear that your company is shutting down the last thing you want is a book about cheese. Before reading this book I had a very hard time dealing with change especially because I was a young single mother of a special needs child. I depended on my “cheese” and how dare them move it! Well that was my thought until I actually opened the book and read it. Oh what a wonderful gift to remind us how to deal with change in work and life.
Fast-forward 12 years later to July 2018. In a few months I will be dealing with another change. This time the company isn’t shutting down but outsourcing a few of its departments. Who Moved My Cheese? Who cares, I’m not going to sit and “Hem” & “Haw”. When life happens the memory of this precious gift given to me reminds me to adjust to change and move on. We can’t be complacent and not have a Plan B and/or Plan C. No one ever plans to fail but too often we do fail to make plans for our future. Mark Victor Hansen reminds us to put our future in good hands – our own!
